As the 2nd. St. Margaret's Bay Girl Guides Unit visit 10236 Peggy's Cove Road and learn about Peggy of the Cove & (Peggy's 2nd Home) Their stay involved a tour of Ivan's Childhood Home, feeding the gulls (which didn't show up), a treasure hunt and a reading from Ivan's favorite story in the book, Peggy of the Cove. Below are a few photos of their evening.
Read Carmen's Comments of their visit >
Substitute gull feeding.
If the gull had co-operated, this would be the result.

A teacher at Atlantic Memorial Elementary asked if I would instruct a group of students in their Create Program. They were to write a short story and do a painting to match. I was happy to accept. The workshop is eight hours and takes place Friday mornings.

The first day included a trip to my Childhood Home Museum where the students had a show and tell experience about creating Peggy of the Cove from legend to reality. The following three sessions were at school. A parent and friend night will take place to show the creations of all workshops on a Thursday night.

Here's the wonderful note I received Friday afternoon from the teacher after our third session.

Ivan,

That was wonderful today.  It was like seeing magic before your eyes when you painted that picture for the children.  Their eyes were as big as saucers  You can tell that you are a story teller as well as a painter.

Have a good weekend.

Here's the painting I quickly whipped off to demonstrate how easy watercolors are.
Here they come off the bus. Faces are blurred because of school regulations.

Students created a wonderful variety of stories and paintings.
We all had a great time. Emma proudly displays her painting on parent night. Everyone was amazed at the talents possed by the students in all the activities.
